China: Going, Going…Gong
One of the biggest and most exciting crazes in modern China is the re-emergence of the chinese gong as a musical centrepiece to any musical festival. The chinese gong has been a part of the Eastern musical lexicon since practically the dawn of time but since the Cultural Revolution its use had been driven underground into secret gong clubs. Now with China liberalising both economically and culturally the instrument has come out from the shadows. Now it is possible to go to musical festivals in Shanghai, Beijing, or almost anywhere in China and hear the great drum from the time of yore. The true beat of the Chinese soul has, once again, been unleashed and all who hear it will be richer for it. We commend this great drum to your ears.
