More and more, groups from big symphonies to smaller rock bands are starting to incorporate the Chinese gongs. I thought the same thing that every else did before I started looking around for them. They are only supposed to be used in oriental music and played by some very large scary looking man. Boy was I wrong! I was amazed to find out how often they are used in almost every action flick or spy thriller today. They offer a great way to separate 2 scenes in a production, without being too abrupt. They also can replace the symbols in a song written in a minor key, and are being used for transitions even by rock bands more often. Every once in a while, you might even be able to see one in a music video.
